Behind the Spellbinder

Professional bartender Sother Teague is the beverage director at the acclaimed NYC bitters bar Amor y Amargo and the host of The Speakeasy on Heritage Radio Network. Sother developed a love of teaching while working on the TV program Good Eats and has been featured as a cocktail expert in various outlets, including Esquire, The New York Times, New York magazine, Time Out New York, and BuzzFeed. In 2018, he was named Wine Enthusiast's "Mixologist of the Year." In 2020, Sother launched the General Store by Amor y Amargo, which offers one of the country’s largest selections of in-store bitters as well as a curated selection of glassware and bar tools. In 2021, he opened Etéria, a plant-based agave bar that features only mezcals and tequilas vetted for sustainable agricultural practices and that support their local communities. He’s the author of I'm Just Here for the Drinks and Let’s Get Blitzen.

Behind El Alma

Jules Snow has over 15 years of experience behind the stick, mostly specializing in tequila and mezcal and is the co-founder of Agave 308, an agave-focused bar in Key West. Through countless hours she spent there and her numerous travels to agave fields and distilleries in Mexico, she’s cultivated her passion for and knowledge of the spirits and cocktails born from this humble succulent. Jules had the pleasure of working in Miami with William Grant on their Mexican spirits portfolio, which at the time included Milagro Tequila, Montelobos Mezcal, and Ancho Reyes. Jules is now a resident of Virginia, and while briefly living in Virginia Beach, she was voted Best Mixologist Southside for the 2020 Best of Awards for Coastal Virginia Magazine. She very recently relocated to the cozy little mountain town of Crozet, VA. A few nights a week, you can find Jules at the Bebedero, which features a wide variety of mezcals and tequila, in historic downtown Charlottesville.

Behind the Mystic Brew

Chris Elford has been in the hospitality industry since his youth, but it wasn’t until moving to NYC in 2010 that he came alive and fell in love with food and beverage. Following successes at Amor y Amargo and Kings County Distillery, he was handed the keys to his first bar-consulting project, creating the beer bar Proletariat in the East Village. He moved to Seattle in 2013, and after cutting his teeth at the cocktail bar Canon (ranked #6 on the World’s 50 Best Bars list that year), he opened No Anchor (which received a James Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant in 2017 and Outstanding Bar Program in 2019) and Navy Strength (which won Best New American Cocktail Bar in 2018 from Tales of the Cocktail) with his partner, Anu. Chris is a Certified Cicerone beer expert and a graduate of the Beverage Alcohol Resource program in NYC with the Bar Ready distinction. His newest project, Here Today Brewery + Kitchen, is beginning construction and will open on the Seattle waterfront in early 2022.
