Just in the nick of time, Party Punch: Bourbon & Bubbles made its way through the workshop to arrive for holiday celebrations. With rich, oaky bourbon and effervescent sparkling wine as their foundation, the three classy and nuanced concoctions soared from there, taking punch's traditional five segments of flavor and expanding on them in delightfully surprising ways.
Here lies a route that skirts jagged coastlines, descends into canyons, and spans wide-open fields to showcase the wild environments where diverse New American gins find their flavors. Along the way, out there amid the untamed, natural beauty of the US, there’s a growing class of craft distillers that search beyond the juniper berry to infuse their gins with something altogether evocative—a sense of the elements and the taste of their specific places of origin. We joined this expedition and expanded it with cocktails celebrating all things natural and wild. By way of recipes that highlight regional ingredients, our featured bartenders offered up glimpses of three majestic national parks and monuments near and dear to them.
To pay homage to the history and deliciousness of Mexico's national treasure, we set the Mezcal Moods with three drinks that head out in entirely different directions but ultimately meet back up at the destination of Mmmmmm—featuring Caer Maiko's smoky mango lassi, Jules Mavromatis's diabolically drinkable blood orange brew, and Sam Jimenez's rich, earthy, and aromatic agave-based libation!
Scotchtember: it was a brand-new month for your calendar and our chance to show off and celebrate Scotch in a new light. Our month-long discovery of some all-new ways to enjoy Scotch featured Caer Maiko’s Japanese-inspired highball, Robert Sickler’s rich, decadent concoction, and Aaron DeFeo’s floral, spiced, and herbal old fashioned!
You may be familiar with pisco’s subtle floral and fruity flavors and the traditional Punch and Sour to which it lends its name, but with this box, we had a few other ideas on how to keep it flowing. Yes, we came down with another case of Pisco Fever, right in time for summer—and the only known cure was relaxation with three refreshing cocktails.
There was a jam session taking place last July, and we followed the sun and sounds to the ultimate destination—our Rums of Origin 2: Jamaica Box. In 2018’s Rums of Origin installment, we’d cruised around to three different countries, but in this 2019 edition we kicked our feet up and stayed put in joyful Jamdown with three hometown hosts as our guides.
This festive box centered on a celebrated Italian export: the noble Negroni, with variations on the classic in the form of a spritz, a tropical sipper, and even a gin-only adaptation—Vespa not included!
Taking a cue from the 1964 act of Congress that officially named bourbon a distinctive product of the United States, we highlighted bourbon’s versatility in our Broken Bourbon Box, which featured Scott LoBianco's refreshing highball, Christine Wiseman's creative take on a julep, and Bobby Eldridge's summery old fashioned.
