To Have on Hand for Catching Up with Cachaça

Recommended liquor: So that you can start mixing your cocktails as soon as your box arrives, why not go get your bottle of prata (silver) cachaça now? Each of this month's featured bartenders has recommendations for you! Any of them will work well for all three recipes found in this box, depending on your preference.

Avuá Prata Cachaça is one of my go-tos for cocktails that call for a light-rum profile. The fresh cane juice base (as opposed to the molasses that rum is generally distilled from) adds a dimension of flavorful vegetal and fruit notes, and it works in everything from daiquiris to punches and complex, multi-ingredient cocktails,” commends Shannon Mustipher. This light, crisp spirit is perfect for both exciting new cocktails and classic caipirinhas.

Chrisopher Longoria recommends Leblon Cachaça for its rich smoothness. “The fermentation and distillation process differs from other brands by using a specific set of temperatures, times, and the ‘perfect’ yeast. All this sets the stage for a well-balanced spirit. After distillation, the distillate is moved from Brazil to the south of France, where it’s aged in used Cognac casks for anywhere from 30 days to 3 months,” says Chrisopher.

“The purest representation of organic sugarcane from southern Brazil, Novo Fogo Silver Cachaça proves that terroir matters,” says Adam Way. “The aroma of bananas is immediately present, followed by pleasantly floral rainforest notes that shine through the spirit. Sea salt balances the cachaça’s tropicality, adding a savory quality and settling the overall impression to a mouthwatering sweet red pepper. This cachaça is rested in stainless steel tanks for one year to smoothen it without changing its flavor.”

Recommended amount: To make all 12 drinks, you'll need 24 oz of cachaça; a medium (750 ml) bottle will be your best bet.

Recommended barware: A few different jiggers that measure 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1, and 2 oz, as well as a strainer, fine mesh strainer, bar spoon, mixing glass, and shaker.

Recommended glassware: A collins glass, a coupe, and a rocks glass.

Recommended ice: To make all 12 cocktails in one go, you'll need about 5 pounds of ice (5 ice trays’ worth).
