Recommended liquor: So that you can start mixing your cocktails as soon as your box arrives, why not go get your bottle of vodka now? Each of this month's featured bartenders has a recommendation for you! Any of them will work well for all three recipes found in this box, depending on your preference.
The name says it all: St. George All Purpose Vodka is the perfect base for building a great cocktail. According to Kellie Thorn, “It's an elegant vodka with character, but its best feature is its incredible texture. The mouthfeel is lush. It's a great addition to the home bar.” St. George’s secret is blending their flagship pear brandy with a non-GMO base spirit, then filtering, to create a classic vodka.
Wódka Vodka is an easy choice for Chelsea Santos when she’s looking to create an intriguing, artful cocktail. “This is a classic Polish vodka distilled from rye and is by far the smoothest vodka I've had! The notes of vanilla and almond play well in any cocktail!” raves Chelsea.
“Blood x Sweat x Tears is a vodka with a grain-forward nose that’s backed up with a slate and mineral attack followed by soft herbs and slight notes of fir and pine,” says Sother Teague. “It finishes quickly and cleanly as a vodka should.” This vodka features locally sourced ingredients and is made in small batches. Blood x Sweat x Tears is also a brand with integrity: it partners with Best Friends Animal Society and its no-kill mission.
Recommended amount: To make all 12 drinks, you'll need 22 oz of vodka; a medium (750 ml) bottle will be your best bet.
Recommended barware: A few different jiggers that measure 1/8, 1/4, 3/4, 1 1/2, and 2 oz, as well as a strainer, fine mesh strainer, bar spoon, citrus juicer or reamer, and shaker. These are not all strictly necessary, but will improve your mixology experience.
Recommended glassware: A coupe glass, a rocks glass, and a collins glass.
Recommended ice: To make all 12 cocktails in one go, you'll need about 5 pounds of ice (5 ice trays’ worth).
Recommended extras: The egg won't be included in the box—we can't ship these—so you'll need one from your fridge if you're planning to use egg white in the Forbidden Fruit cocktail. If you're looking for an alternative to the egg white, we recommend Ms. Better’s Bitters Miraculous Foamer!
