To Have on Hand for Tequilin' It

Recommended liquor: So that you can start mixing your cocktails as soon as your box arrives, why not go get your bottle of tequila now? Each of this month's featured bartenders has a recommendation for you! Any of them will work well for all three recipes found in this box, depending on your preference:

Bríbón Tequila Blanco boasts a meticulous production process using old ideas and new equipment to yield an uncommon level of quality and efficiency. “The product is a drink heavy on the tongue, both sedating and refreshing, and chock-full of clean white pepper and sweet red and green peppers,” says Donny Clutterbuck. “And a great choice for any classic cocktail!”

Jules Mavromatis recommends Milagro Silver. It is produced from 100% Weber Blue Agave in the Jalisco Highlands with a unique distillation process—it is distilled twice using two different types of stills: pot and column. According to Jules, “The result is a smooth and crisp agave-forward tequila with flavors of wet grass, citrus, and pepper. It is delightful on its own or will shine through in a variety of cocktails.”

“The nuances of agave spirits are some of my favorite flavor profiles in the world—not just because of all the different variables that can go into creating them but also the amazing culture and people who have been producing them for generations,” says Trevor Frye, and that’s why he recommends a classic blanco tequila like Tres Agaves. It pulls in the softer notes like vanilla and citrus up front and then finishes with the classic earthy and pepper notes of agave, providing the perfect foundation for these cocktails.

Recommended amount: To make all 12 drinks, you'll need 22 oz of tequila blanco; a medium (750 ml) bottle will be your best bet.

Recommended barware: A few different jiggers that measure 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1 1/2, and 2 oz, as well as a strainer, shaker, citrus juicer or reamer, bar spoon, and mixing glass. These are not all strictly necessary, but will improve your mixology experience.

Recommended glassware: A small (8 oz) highball glass; a collins glass; and a rocks glass.

Recommended ice: To make all 12 cocktails in one go, you'll need about 5 pounds of ice (5 ice trays’ worth).
